Telegrams and excerpts from letters from Christian and civic leaders, applauding the work of YFC and sending greetings to the rally. These and others were read out by Johnson at the beginning of the rally. Merv Rosell of Rochester, Minnesota, the recipient of the telegrams for the rally, was already a prominent YFC evangelist. From the Papers of Torrey Johnson, Collection 285, box 27, folder 14.
Telegram from Hubert Mitchell to Merv Rosell, May 30, 1945. Mitchell was the leader of the Los Angeles YFC club. His telegram gives an example of the great and global expectations of the YFC movement.

Excerpts from letters from Dwight H. Green, governor of the state of Illinois, and Edward J. Kelly, mayor of Chicago, to Torrey Johnson. The letters showed the support the YFC movement sought from local civic leaders.

Telegram from Jack Wyrtzen to Merv Rosell “Speakers platform, Soldier Field,” May 30, 1945. Wyrtzen’s Saturday night youth rallies started in the 1930s, many of which were held in Madison Square Garden, were one of the most important influences on the development of the YFC movement, although his organization never joined.
